Buy this weeder! First, the description on Amazon is not complete. The tool has 6 spiked tines at the end of it, not four. It really grips all of the weed and tap root. I live in Central Texas and due to lots of rain our weeds this year have been plentiful and big. Pulling them was miserable work – large tap roots to dig out. I have tried other weeders over the years but this made weeding fun. The first time I tried it I thought I would just try weeding for about 15 minutes. Well 45 minutes later the yard was cleared of all the big, tough weeds. Now it is a month later and I am having no recurrence of the weeds. Pulling out the tap root made a big difference in my lawn. I have virtually no weeds now, and that includes the dreaded crabgrass.

Here is a description of how it works, and I was able to do it with one hand.

1. Jam the tool into the ground around the center of the weed.
2. Twist the handlebar doing a full rotation once, or even twice for a large root-spreading weed.
3. Pull the weeder out of the ground. The weed and tap root will be gripped in the tines at the end of the tool.
4. Push down on the plunger that is in the middle, on the top of the handlbar. This will open the tines and release the weed and tap root.
5. Here’s a tip – carry a bucket with you to drop the weeds into.

So basic operation is jam, twist, pull up, and plunger down. This tool even pulls out crabgrass roots and twisting the handlebars will pull in the spreading roots.

This tool is also tall enough that you won’t have to bend over to use it. It is very sturdy construction. I let two neighbors use it, and they both ended up buying one of their own.

One caveat: if all you have are very small weeds this might make too big a hole for you. However, if you have tap roots to get out this is the tool for you.

Was excited to try this but after 3 weeds during its very first use, the piece of junk broke. One of the two little side bars that is attached at the very bottom that goes up through the top piece broke right off at the solder point. Used it as directed and everything.

Rena Smartfilter 20 Review

Most aquarium filter systems just run water over a pad which may or may not be filled with activated carbon. However, with the Rena series ALL the water is forced through carbon packed filters. I find this noticeably more effective in removing the icky stuff from the aquarium. It also helps polish the water to a crystal clear state.
But nothing is perfect. The weak point on these filters is the lid that you have to turn just so to hold the filters in place. The lid is not well designed and I actually broke one before I figured out how to deal with it. After broken there is no repair.
Also, Rena filters and filter pads seem to be a bit difficult to locate in the marketplace. The pads are a bit costly – around each.
Overall I would rate the Rena filters pretty high on performance.

I’ve owned the 55 for less than two months when the motor failed. I tried calling Rena for help, all you get is an answering machine. They called me back two days later and told me that I can box up the filter and send it back for warranty. I said “hold on, this is my filter, I can’t run w/o for a week or more” I asked if I could buy a replacement motor or if they could do an advanced replacement, I’d happily have paid for that. At that point the guy got rude and told me they “they weren’t going to just ship out an expensive piece of equipment to me and if I considered my filter to be so important that I should own a backup.”

I wish I could recommend this product, but having it fail in under two months and then being told I should have bought two is just unacceptable.

Bought the Smartfilter 55, but has same motor as this product 7 months ago. Recently started sounding / performing horribly. Emailed customer service to which the only answer was mail in unit at my shipping cost both direction and they’d ‘fix’ unit. When I asked for a unit to be sent to me upfront since this was in a working aquarium got the runaround. Called and got same result with the ‘you should always have a backup pump’….. no I should have bought a product that works and is reliable. Will never buy another RENA project again.

Bad product, horrible customer service… AVOID

I thought I was ordering the large size that would cover the entire cargo area of my Jeep. But you must read the FINE print that this is a single seat cover! UGH! I wish they would show a picture of EXACTLY what you are ordering and not a picture of something they don’t even carry! Talk about false advertising! I am so upset that I wasted my money on this item.

Worst part about it is that if I do put it on the passenger seat and my dog sits on the cover it is so slick and slippery he slips right off and into my dashboard! And if I apply the breaks while driving he get slammed into the dashboard.

This product is actually DANGEROUS to your pet.

The root soaker is a good product especially in our drought stricken times. Used to water trees, shrubs and plants and was able to get at least a foot down… my soil is particularly bad with lots of rocks/ boulders. Would be good to start holes for fences because of the hydraulic pressure of the tool. Paint finish wore off fairly quickly and needs to be oiled with vegatable oil to keep rust off.

Definitly a good purchase… especially for the price!
